The Land of Volcanoes and Healing Waters – 1 Day Private Tour from Brașov
Lake Sfânta Ana – Tinovul Mohoș (Mohoș Peat Bog) – The Healing Springs of Balvanyos
Discover a hidden world shaped by fire and water on this unique one-day tour from Brașov. Explore the only volcanic lake in Eastern Europe, walk through an ancient crater turned into a moss-covered bog, and bathe your senses in the healing springs tucked deep in the Szeklerland forests. This is a journey through one of Romania’s most mysterious and mineral-rich regions – a place where nature still whispers in Hungarian and Latin.
What we’ll explore:
Lake Sfânta Ana
Our first stop is Lake Sfânta Ana, a unique volcanic lake formed in a crater over 30,000 years ago, it’s the only volcanic lake in Eastern Europe and one of the few in the world preserved in such a natural state. We’ll enjoy a peaceful walk through the surrounding forest down to the lakeshore, taking in the fresh air and serene silence of this sacred place.
Tinovul Mohoș (Mohoș Peat Bog)
Just above the lake lies Tinovul Mohoș – a twin crater of the same volcano, now transformed into a peat bog covered in sphagnum moss and carnivorous plants. A guided walk on the wooden pathways reveals this rare and fragile ecosystem, with small hidden lakes and floating islands of vegetation. A stunning natural contrast to the clear waters of Lake Sfânta Ana.

The Healing Springs of Balvanyos
We end the day in a secluded corner of the forest near Balvanyos, where nature has gifted the land with over 15 mineral springs, each with its own unique composition and therapeutic properties. These natural tubs and fountains, still little known to the wider public, are used by locals for treating various ailments or simply for relaxation. Romania holds 40% of Europe’s mineral water resources, and in this quiet haven you’ll experience the traditional healing culture deeply rooted in this region.
Don’t forget to bring a swimsuit, slippers, and a towel if you’d like to enjoy the mineral baths – swimming is only possible during the summer season (June–August), but the tour itself can be organized year-round.
