Peles Castle Cultural Tour

In the morning we head to Sinaia to visit the royal summer residence. Peles Castle was built at the end of 1800s at the foothills of Bucegi Mountains and remained one of the favorite summer residences of the Romanian Royal Family until their forced abdication in 1947. Amazingly preserved, the Castle offers a glimpse into the sparkling life of the Romanian Royal Family.

Our next stop: The Cantacuzino Castle

Cantacuzino Castle in Bușteni was built by one of the richest Romanians of the time, Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino, a descendant of Byzantine emperors. It was close to competing with the castles of fairy tales. It was the summer residence of Prince Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino, nicknamed “Nababul” because of his impressive fortune.

The castle, built in neo-Romanesque style, is surrounded by a park whose paths lead visitors to grottoes, waterfalls and fountains.

Today, the castle is open to visitors and hosts a number of cultural events, including exhibitions of works of art by some of the world’s greatest artists and classical music concerts with performances by renowned artists. All of this is done with the intention of promoting the history and culture of the location and Romania through memorable experiences.

Third stop, the Urlatoarea Waterfall

After visiting the Cantacuzino Castle, we follow the path for an easy hike to Urlatoarea Waterfall in Bucegi Mountains. With it’s pretty high fall, the waterfall deserves its name, Urlatoarea (meaning “the Screaming One”) and can be heard through the trees way before the eyes can see it.
