SAMBATA DE SUS HIKING TOUR
Fagaras Mountains are known for their imposing, wild landscapes and numerous natural treasures that make any tourist discover the joy of the mountain.
If you are passionate about mountain scenery, fresh air and sport, these mountains offer you no less than 107 peaks over 2000 meters and 8 peaks over 2500 meters. Obviously, the Moldoveanu peak is the most attractive because of its height and the not-so-easy trails you have to cross to conquer it, but each of the hundreds of peaks has something to offer.
But if you don’t have enough time or experience to hike the crest of these mountains, we invite you to a day hike. Here we will climb up to the Sambetei Valley Hut, for you to enjoy nature and explore this wonderful area.
What can you admire from the Sambata Valley Hut? (Cabana Valea Sambetei)
From the Sambetei Valley Hut you can admire the well-known Balaceni Pass. The Balaceni Pass overlooks the Sambetei Valley, always with its back to the sun and seemingly more inviting in the winter season, when snow and ice take over its northern wall. It is also nicknamed the Mattehorn of Romania. Many mountaineers are drawn to it and want to climb to the top. However, you have to be very well prepared when doing this, otherwise the risk of injury is high.
Also from the hut you can admire the impressive glacial valley of the Fagaras Mountains, full of waterfalls and vegetation untouched by man. Indeed, a great view! We will enjoy together our free time to relax and take a walk in the meadows near the hut.
Father Arsenie Boca’s Mountain Chapel

If you are passionate about history and religion, we can visit together the Chapel of Father Arsenie Boca. Father Arsenie was a powerful personality, a guide to many Romanians and a supporter of faith in God.
His chapel, where he spent a good part of his life, is located at an altitude of about 1600 meters, on the right side of Valea Sâmbetei hut. Around the hut there is a beautiful meadow and even if the road is difficult, every step is worth it.
The legend says that after the father died, two deer appeared at the source of the Sâmbetei Valley to herald his death. The abandoned chapel slowly became a place of pilgrimage, it was adorned with icons and flowers and a marble stone was placed as a reminder of his thought of living there. The scenery is beautiful, and people who have visited the place say that they have felt more at peace, in a deep state of well-being, and that they will visit again soon.
