Day 1, we soaked up the Romanian countryside: volcano, Emerald Lake, Unesco village, local hospitality, fortified chuch and ancient citadel at Rupea. Romana's knowledge was extensive and really interesting. She set the scene splendidly for Day 2. Day 2 all about castles, Peles, Cantacuzi no finishing with Bran. Each very different. On the way to Peles, Romana gave a wonderful overview of the complex history of Romania which led nicely into the visit. WOW! The fact this site was not completely pillaged by the communists is astounding....and Romana shared the reason why. The 2nd stop was an adjustment as works were taking place on the intended original location. Even so a very pleasant location, with an interesting history to it's owners. On the way to the final location Romana explained the interesting relationship the country has with Bram Stoker. Due to communist rule, the people if Romania were unaware of the best-selling FICTIONAL story, which starts in their country. Understanding how this was handled following the fall of the communist regime, in itself, is an amazing piece of history! Unfortunately the opulent items were stolen from this location by the communists, but the location is wonderfully preserved and a great place to visit. The Communication was clear before the trip and we enjoyed her recommendation for the restaurant we visited especially as I’d planned a different meal that wouldn’t have been as good. We had a lovely stress free time as she handled picking us up from out rural accommodation and then took us to some lovely out of the way scenic routes and picturesque spots on the way to the first attraction. Her insider knowledge of Bram castle alongside our own fast pass tickets probably saved us an hour of queuing as without her we would have stood in the wrong mass of people when the castle opened and definitely had a much worse experience had she not been there with her expert guidance. Altogether she crafted a memorable experience which she weaved with her own rich personalised cultural insights and expert knowledge and we can’t recommend her enough.
